Vauxhall Car Insurance
Published 4th March, 2007.
Continuing our series of articles where we look at insurance groups and the affects they have on
insurance costs, we first began by covering the range of Fords currently
available on the market. However, in this article we now turn the spotlight on another of the UK's most
popular brands - The Vauxhall.
For well over 100 years Vauxhall have consistently produced cars that have captured the imagination of
thousands of motorists, to the extent that some of the older Vauxhall models are now considered
classics in their own right by collectors and enthusiasts around the world. The popularity of Vauxhall
and their cars might be due to the ideology they have always strived to maintain. That is to manufacture
good, honest and reliable cars that cater to the tastes and whims of the mass market. From their innovative
and cleverly designed Vauxhall Corsa to the high performance Vauxhall VX220 , which back in 2003 was quite
deservedly awarded the title "performance car of the year". These two, plus many others in their
vast range, have all helped Vauxhall maintain a solid presence in the UK car market and ensured that anyone
looking to buy a new car today will probably have at least one Vauxhall on their shortlist.
Vauxhall - The Economical CarHowever, for the majority of buyers making a decision on a
new car will normally mean taking into account far more aspects than the design alone, with running costs,
repair costs and car safety all high priority on the average buyers mind. But Vauxhall have, over time,
established themselves as a brand that is renowned for economy. For example, a typical Vauxhall not only
looks stylish but will also be economical to run, cheap to repair and have servicing bills that many
competing brand owners can only dream about. Vauxhall Insurance OffersTaking a closer look at
Vauxhall it's clear to see their innovative ideas extend way beyond car design as well, as continued
empathy towards customer satisfaction brings new and interesting developments to the marketplace. Probably
the most noticeable of these are the special offers and discounts frequently bundled in with new car
purchases. The most noteworthy of which are the subsidised insurance offers that are run from time
to time. This is where the purchaser of a new Vauxhall will have their first year of insurance made
available at a fixed price. Although purely a marketing promotion this can be a blessing for anyone
burdened with expensive insurance premiums, and especially attractive to the younger driver as they
are the ones most likely to be paying extortionate amounts for car insurance. The two
cars that are regularly used in subsidised insurance promotions are the Corsa and Astra, both of which
happen to be very popular choices for the younger driver. With this in mind, it's not difficult to see
how Vauxhall's marketing is right on the button, as not only promotions like this, but all of their
purchasing incentives, are always targeted at precisely the correct demographic.
Extended Fixed Price InsuranceAlthough younger drivers will benefit the most from having
insurance offered to them at a fixed price, it's not hard to see how it can also be a major incentive to
other age groups as well. After all, following the initial purchase of a new car the second largest sum
paid out will normally be for insurance, so any assistance in offsetting insurance premiums can make a
vast difference to the overall cost of car ownership. Sometimes this offer is extended so that the fixed
price insurance runs into the second and third year of car ownership, but ultimately it will depend on
the retailer the car is bought from and the terms and conditions of the offer, as promotions themselves
can differ from showroom to showroom. Vauxhall Free InsuranceFor the fortunate few, who
are in the right place at the right time, it might be possible to find a Vauxhall retailer offering free
insurance with every new car purchase. Once again this promotion will typically apply to the Astra and
Corsa in their range, but if it's one of these models you intend buying then it might pay to search
around in the hope you can find a retailer currently offering it. Unfortunately, unlike the fixed price
insurance, and as far as we can ascertain, these free insurance offers never apply to the second
and third year of ownership, as we imagine this would be a less than cost effective approach for Vauxhall.
Drive Away TodayThe Vauxhall marketing team also appear to have taken into account
the " must have it now" generation by designing a solution for the impatient buyer. They
recently launched a new service throughout many UK dealerships called the "phone-and-go, which
enables anyone buying a new car to drive it home the very same day. In the past buying a car from a
showroom would often mean a short delay while the paperwork was finalised and the car's insurance was
organised. With Vauxhall those days appear to have gone, as once you have signed on the dotted line the
car's insurance can be arranged there and then.
Sales staff now give buyers the opportunity to drive the car home immediately, as temporary insurance
is arranged to make the car fully road legal. Comprehensive insurance is
offered for a period of up to seven days and at no cost to the buyer. It is then the their prerogative
at the end of those seven days to either continue with the Vauxhall insurance or arrange a policy from a
company of their own choice.
Vauxhall's AppealIn summary, Vauxhall do make taking to the road a relatively easy experience.
There's always a wide variety of cars on offer in all manner of shapes and sizes. They are well designed,
functional and have enough diversity to appeal to the tastes and needs of a wide variety of motorists.
However, from an insurance point of view, probably the pivotal point will be the insurance group rating
for the car, and it this we will now be looking at.
You may be aware that insurance group ratings are in a period of transition as the old 1 to 20 system
is being enhanced. We shall publish the new insurance groups as soon as we can, until then here are the group
